The Massachusetts Gamma Chapter of Pi Beta Phi initiated thirteen new members Saturday, April 4, bringing the total membership of the newest sorority on campus to 52. Saturday's initiation was the first ceremony conducted by the founding class of the MA Gamma Chapter, and is the end result of a successful informal Spring Recruitment. The newly-initiated and veteran sisters alike were excited and ready for the weekend, which was the culmination of a successful first full year at MIT.
"This weekend was especially exciting for us," said Hillary Benson, Pi Beta Phi's Chapter President, "owing to the fact that the incoming member class was the first initiated by our founding executive council."
In the upcoming months, the sisters will continue to participate in philanthropies of other sororities, such as Alpha Chi Omega's Lipsync, and off-campus ones like Relay for Life. From April 6th to 9th, the chapter will be doing its own fundraising by selling Pi Beta Bunny Baskets - spring baskets filled with candy that will be delivered to student's dorms - to raise money for First Book, a partner organization to Pi Beta Phi that donates books to children in need. The chapter is currently making plans for a larger philanthropy to be held in future years.
